Our Work
Life-Saving Humanitarian Assistance
Oxfam provides large-scale humanitarian aid focusing on water, sanitation, hygiene, and food security. We ensure immediate needs are met while laying the groundwork for long-term recovery and resilience. Our activities include constructing water sources, trucking water to remote communities, building latrines, and providing multi-purpose cash grants that empower communities to meet their needs. We prioritize the protection of women and children from security risks.
We also advocate for Somali civil society and government actors to play a more prominent role in humanitarian responses. As we look to the future, we link our humanitarian work with building community resilience, such as mitigating the impacts of climate change through sustainable water resources.
Development Programs: Building for the Future
Our development work complements our humanitarian efforts by addressing the root causes of poverty and injustice, while working to unlock the potential of all people in Somalia. This includes encouraging and facilitating women and youth to participate in formal and informal decision-making processes, improving economic prospects for youth, and enhancing access to formal justice systems.
Policy and influencing are at the heart of our approach to addressing systemic challenges and inequities. We advocate for Somali debt cancellation and inclusive policies related to gender and youth.
